Forta and Conduit Join Forces to Bring Unmatched Security to Rollups
December 4, 2024

The Forta Foundation is thrilled to announce a strategic partnership with Conduit, the leading rollup-as-a-service provider. This collaboration enables Conduit rollups to integrate Forta Firewall, delivering cutting edge protection against exploits and creating a secure environment for developers and users alike.
Security by Default
Forta Firewall leverages AI to screen and block malicious transactions before execution. Firewall can detect and stop 99%+ of exploits with virtually zero friction to end users.
This gives developers the confidence to build powerful applications on rollups using Firewall, without the fear of attacks that steal user funds. At the same time, users deploying their capital onchain have the peace of mind that their assets are protected. This facilitates faster adoption and growth of TVL, creating a flywheel effect that drives the ecosystem forward.
Effortless Integration
A standout feature of this collaboration is the seamless integration process it enables. Any rollup using Conduit can opt in to Forta Firewall protection without any development effort. The integration is handled entirely between Conduit and Forta, allowing rollup teams to focus on building their ecosystems.
This frictionless approach makes it easy for rollups to access the best in security without adding operational complexity.
Beyond Exploit Prevention
While stopping exploits is the primary focus, Forta Firewall’s flexibility unlocks additional use cases. Teams are already using it to address compliance needs, such as screening for transactions involving OFAC-sanctioned addresses, ensuring that rollups remain not only secure but compliant with regulations.
How it Works
Forta Firewall integrates directly into Conduit rollups at the RPC level. Most rollups have a public RPC that doubles as the sequencer RPC. Transactions are routed through this single entry point before going to the sequencer for ordering and execution. To integrate Firewall, Conduit adds a hook onto each rollup RPC that routes transaction details to the Firewall for screening.
Rerouting transactions to Firewall happens via a JSON API call. Firewall returns a 200 message for transactions deemed low risk, and a 403 message for transactions deemed high risk (txs that received a risk score above the blocking threshold set by the Firewall user). High risk transactions get dropped at that stage, while low risk transactions get forwarded to the sequencer. All of this takes less than 80ms on average.
All the information about transactions screened by Firewall will be written to the Forta Chain, a Conduit powered L3. This data will be encrypted and only accessible to the rollup team (Forta Firewall user). The chain also maintains an inbox of transactions blocked by the Firewall. These transactions are not permanently blocked however, as they can be resubmitted after some delay period and processed normally.
